Nothing Painted Blue are known for catchy melodies, and for lyrics that suggest you could stand to read a few more books than you've been reading lately. You may see the name abbreviated as ∅PB, 0PB, NPB, OPB, etc. The personnel:

• Franklin Bruno provides the vocals and much of the guitar work.
• Kyle Brodie has been the band's drummer from the start. 
• The bassist position has gone through some changes:
  • The earliest releases featured Michael Neelon on bass, and he would return for later albums to play viola and other instruments.
  • After Michael Neelon, Joey Burns took over for a few years, then departed for Tucson to join up with Giant Sand bandmate John Convertino, and form a little outfit you may have heard of called Calexico.
  • Peter Hughes (of Diskothi-Q) took over bassist duties for the band circa 1993, and remained in the position indefinitely.  

The group has not reunited for more recordings, though Franklin continues to record with The Human Hearts and Peter has contributed bass to some Human Hearts recordings. Kyle has played drums at live Wckr Spgt gigs in the past few years. Peter has been the bass player for the Mountain Goats full-time since 2002. One can dream...

The earliest Nothing Painted Blue releases were in 1990, though they appear to have played live for while before those. The most recent was a CD on Shrimper in 2006.
