Nothing Painted Blue - President Am I (1995) [Pottery Records, pottery 003, 7"]

The 1997 Nothing Painted Blue compilation Emotional Discipline compiled much of the band's 7" output, but neither of these tracks made it in. You'll have to pick up the 7" yourself to hear them. 

The scan doesn't really do this one justice. Jason Rothenberg put a lot of love into some of these Pottery Records sleeves. No mention of speed on the 7" or sleeve, but these both play at 33

"President Am I" is a cover of Slow Children's 1981 catchy new wave single. Noted new wave enjoyer Peter Hughes is in his element on the bass and backing vocals. Franklin's voice squeaking just a little on the "such a!"'s in the chorus is delightful. "Contraption" is original and it's standard Nothing Painted Blue stuff. Imagine a 7" split with the NPB "President Am I" cover on the A-side, and Diskothi-Q's cover of "Just What I Needed" on the B-side...
