Well, this one is a treasure. This is the best Refrigerator 7", hands down. "Meantime" is one of those great Refrigerator songs where Allen and Dennis do the chorus together. You can always tell one from the other when they're singing alone, but when you hear them together, you really get that feeling of, "oh yeah! they're brothers!". "Thinner Than Skin" also features a lot of unison vocals. Flip it over and you get the title track, which is good lively Refrigerator stuff. "Housing Fires" is a Dennis track. You get Allen doing the "ahhs" up front with some guitar, and then it's Dennis Time.
Gail Butensky's photo of the boys is great, you can find a full scan below. For more of Gail's work, check out this collection at Bamboo Dart Press. This 7" and the Suck And Run 7" feature both Chris Jones and Joel Connell on drums, in the middle ground before the transition to Chris as the sole Refrigerator drummer. They also trade off duties on 1995's How You Continue Dreaming, then Chris is on deck full-time starting with Anchors of Bleed.
A1. Meantime
problem is
is everything's too perfect
even the best laid plans
[inaudible]
golden moments
tin picture frames
connecting all the faces to the names
in the meantime
in the meantime
in the meantime
throw down on the table
all you know about love
when i send you off with best wishes
[inaudible] candy kisses
and i wonder what you're thinking
and i wonder where's the use
knowing what it is that you're missing
in the meantime
in the meantime
in the meantime
time
time
A2. Thinner Than Skin
please don't look this way
i'm thinner than skin now
don't look at me
used to stop by
write it in the journal by my bedside
now incessantly
how did you become
how did you become
B1. Louder Than Goodbye
souvenirs keep swinging
louder than goodbye
the ribbons mark the spot now
louder than goodbye
looking for the right empty space
to keep it in place
[inaudible
like the doorbell ringing
just like a gentle breeze
feel it like a storm
passing through your door
louder than goodbye
louder than goodbye
louder than goodbye
B2. Housing Fires
your ex roommate says hi
she's finally found a use
[inaudible]
and if i found a place
to house the fires you create
tricking them into my burning down embers of you
the doorways remain
and your sighs never change
walking sideways some days
and the ashes stain your hands
and the ash becomes your
[inaudible]
to house the fires you create
to house the fires you create
