From the liner notes:
Friends:
"A Bedroom Community" was ably recorded by Bob Durkee in San Dimas in March through August of 1994,
and mixed by Bob and myself in October. Piano recorded at KPFK-FM, North Hollywood. The songs were
written at various times in the last two years, except for "Great Fool," which was originally recorded
by The Apartments. All the songs are published 1994 by Stopgap Measures (BMI), except "Great Fool," which
is copyright control 1985. For good or ill, I played and sang everything, with the following exceptions:
Kyle Brodie, drums on "The Lonelysocks Generation"; Mark Givens, "El Daño" on "Uninsulated Wall";
Michael Neelon, viola on "Great Fool." Kristi Engel also contributed a spoken part on "Purity Test," not
included here. Roll Call: Chaffy High School, Ontario. Equipment was borrowed from Dennis Durnell
(build acoustic), Peter Hughes (acoustic guitar, casio), Kevin Hughes (bass, Rickenbacker guitar) and Nathan Wilson
(spring reverb).
In addition to all of the above, thanks are due to: Jenny Toomey and Kristin Thomson, without whom some of
these songs would still be sitting in notebooks; Dennis Callaci for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Shrimper
colony; John Darnielle for being half of the Extra Glenns; Gloria Putnam for setting up shows at Cup
of J; and Frank and Jeanne Bruno for harboring me between Casa de Badger and grad school. Extra
special "Here I And Sorrow Sit" tour-thanks: Simon Joyner, David Carl, the VUD Foundation, Liz Clayton,
The Softies, Crayon(RIP), Good Horsey(RIP)/Justice/Max/Mark/Devon/Trackshun/Pork Queen, Kim Coté, Rob
Dayton, Chris Deden, The Bruces, Dan/Danielle/Walt Records, The Insects of Rock (Prismshake, Cobra
Verde, GBV) and Joey Burns. If I haven't mentioned it, nearly everyone mentioned above has made
or put out great records that you should find and buy.
Cover concept: Franklin. Cover execution: Kristin. I can be reached at Box 36M65, Los Angeles CA
