regarded as risky but demonstrating good tasteI'm not much of a piano player, and I am not
a pianist at all. In fact, a famous Jazz pianist once told
me that he did not know "what to make of my playing". That
hurt my feelings, but it did not stop me from continuing to
play, listen, and learn. There is no sound like that of an acoustic
piano: the sound, the feeling, the "completeness" of the
instrument. I have spent thousands of hours, alone with a
piano, and a piano is a keen lover, both demanding and giving.I recorded this set of tunes, 53 in all, in
one afternoon. The Steinway 'B' and twenty-five years of
the players listed above, and that hunger to play, led to
this collection of moments.Oh, yeah, the title refers to the way some
admirable New Orleans piano "professors" used to earn a good
living.JOHN
