This is a cool one! You can buy it on Bandcamp or pick up the tape at the usual places using the links above. Notes on tracks, based on the tape order:
- "Thermoneutral" is a cool kinda atmospheric song, piano and some ghostly distance on the vocals
- "Free To Organize" is great. Blast it in your workplace parking lot.
- "Sweet the Spring" made me think on first listen, from the lyrics, that Franklin had set chords to some classic poem I didn't know about. That's Franklin for you.
- "Dig That Purple Pit" is noted as "demo for pipe-dream musical of The Nutty Professor"
- "Heartbreaking Business" is a jazzy piano tune.
- "I Want Things (I Don't Deserve)" is a little jazzy too, but on acoustic guitar.
- "Strange Feeling" is a cover of a Billy Strayhorn/Duke Ellington piece.
- "Chic-A-Mole Reel" is a nice little instrumental guitar song
- "Infant Changing Table" is a reminder that Franklin is a recurring member of Wckr Spgt
- "Other Devotions" is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in recent memory. Soft acoustic stuff, lonesome lyrics.
- "Sales Event" is a nice acoustic song.
- "The Bridges" is a duet with Bree Benton, adapting the poem of the same name by Arthur Rimbaud into an exchange between Franklin's spoken parts and Bree's singing. Particular highlight: the chords building to it, and Bree's delivery on "are these popular tunes..."
- "Chiliagon" (that's pronounced KIL-ee-a-gon; a polygon with 1,000 sides) was originally featured on a compilation on Brassland, which I hope to have more information on soon. It's a classic. When the quiet "circular to me..." builds and the electric guitar comes in, oh, man.
- "Flag Pin" was written for a Wckr Spgt compilation tape of sorts, Smooth Sounds. Index page to come.
- "Last Dance" is a Mekons cover.
