The Gerogerigegege - More Shit E.P. (1992) [Baby Huey, BABY-003, 7"]

Cover illustrations don't get much better than that.

What Does This 7" Sound Like?

Descriptions of this release from available catalog inserts:

[Insert from BABY 005]
"Scatological punk rock noise blast from this Japanese group known for its
obscene live performances. Eleven tracks (recorded in 1987 and 1988) representative
of the "rocking" side of the band. Another US debut."

[Insert from BABY 007]
"Scatological punk noise blast from Japan's most hated band.
11 tracks (recorded in 1987/88) representative of their
"rock" years. Pure shit!

The Gerogerigegege (ザ・ゲロゲリゲゲゲ) is the long-running experimental music project of Juntaro Yamanouchi (山ノ内純太郎 Yamanouchi Juntarou) and their inclusion in the Baby Huey catalog is exciting stuff. After a very active decade in the 90's, The Gerogerigegege were inactive from roughly 2002 to 2015, then returned in 2016 and have continued producing new work.

Here I'll offer a side note, which you can skip if you just want to know what's on the record sleeve. From 2002 to 2015, reportedly Yamanouchi was not reachable by his old contacts, and his whereabouts were left to speculation online even among the Japanese fanbase. Takeshi Ohmura (who plays guitar and bass on the A-side of this record) is ongoingly regarded as someone whose whereabouts are completely unknown. As I mentioned discussing the Zeni Geva release preceding this one in the Baby Huey catalog, it's not unusual for Japanese musicians to maintain very separate lives from their artistic output. As you can see, even an act with The Gerogerigegege's reach could totally vanish for 15 years, no different than the modern pseudonymous artists who populate Japan's various doujin (amateur/independent) scenes and may never publicly reveal a "legal" name. In my experience, western music prefers clear records of legal names, or at least a consistent stage name tied to one, when tracking contributions to records. But the more independent the scene, the fuzzier the taxonomy gets, which is what's so fun about digging into stuff like the Shrimper back catalog. Try identifying the members of Big Breakfast solely from the booklet that comes with Why Do You Touch Things That Aren't Yours? and see how far you get. Anyway.
